Aristides Capital LLC, founded in 2008, is an SEC-registered investment adviser with an office in Louisville, KY. We manage two equity-focused multistrategy long-short hedge funds with approximately $210 million in assets under management and a history of risk-adjusted returns among the best in our industry. Equity Research Analyst

Location

In-person in Louisville with the option for a hybrid in-office / work-from-home schedule (with at least 3 days a week in the office).

 

Responsibilities

  • Identify under-followed equities with attractive risk-reward and near-term catalysts as potential longs

  • Develop familiarity with a broad universe of small (sub-$2B) companies to add to an internal watchlist and identify attractive entry points

  • Meet with company management at various microcap conferences and identify trustworthy vs. promotional management teams

  • Research potential shorts, particularly fraudulent companies, companies in need of an equity raise, fatally flawed business models, and ridiculously overpriced retail darlings

  • Build simple financial models and forecasts as part of the due diligence process, with focus on key business value drivers

  • Effectively and concisely convey insights through both oral and written communication

  • Conduct maintenance research and monitor business news on portfolio holdings 

  • Analyze companies’ earnings reports, including previews and reviews

 

Qualifications

  • Minimum 1-5 years experience as buy-side equity analyst (OR significant investment banking experience OR experience in a global consulting firm across multiple industries)

  • Familiarity with complex corporate actions

  • Familiarity with arbitrage and/or special situation investment ideas

  • Experience parsing company financials and corporate filings including proxies, prospectuses, registration statements

  • Excellent critical thinking and communication skills

  • Highly detail-oriented

  • Comfortable with earnest discussion, evaluation, and feedback


 

Enhanced Qualifications

  • Demonstrated ability to generate alpha using fundamental techniques, especially catalyst-driven approaches

  • Experience with international securities, IFRS reporting, and foreign securities laws

  • Experience with options and futures

  • Relevant advanced degree or CFA

  • Sector expertise welcome, however analyst will be a generalist with a broad coverage universe

  • Elite reading comprehension 


 

Compensation

  • Base salary of $100,000 - $150,000 based on qualifications, enhanced qualifications, education, and experience

  • Discretionary annual bonus with material upside depending on performance (we have a strong firm culture of sharing value created with our employees)

  • Benefits including paid vacation, paid health insurance, 401(k) with company contributions

  • Signing/relocation bonus
